Hooray for The Tyee! A nearly mainstream news source that considers animals and the environment front-page news. What a concept.

A Podcast of Tzeporah Berman, BC’s Rock Star of the Environment

Wow - is this really true? You have found love? That’s why I haven’t heard from you!! :( (kidding) glad to see you looking so happy in your photo. Does this mean that living with mom and dad may soon be coming to an end - too early to say, I know, but nice to think about eh?

Now, onto business. I didn’t have your email at work so am using your blog to contact you. Hope that’s ok. No need to post this obviously.

I had an email today from someone who saw 4 dead chickens on the side of the #1 near Burnaby, likely on their way to the slaughter house at Hastings and Commercial. He wants someone to take action, or at least find out who the transporters were. He wrote to the CFIA, SPCA and us at VHS. So, I was wondering whether the Burnaby Now would want a story on this? If we can’t talk about the cruelty and lack of protection these birds have during transport, we could at least talk about the human health hazard of having dead birds on the side of the road, and that sloppy transport would be particularly concerning should avian flu come about (…which is a nice segue to your latest book). We could also talk about dead chickens attracting coyotes and other animals to the roadway, which could cause traffic accidents and jams. What do you think? Is it anything you could use in your column, or should I have the individual write up an Op-ed and submit it to Burnaby Now?

Let me know. My daytime number at VHS is 266-9744.
